It is hard to believe, but in less than two days time I will be on a plane bound for Thailand. I am filled with equal parts excitement and fear. While I have traveled in the past, to Europe and around the US, this is the first time I will travel to a foreign country completely on my own. I am going to a place where the only language I know is the name of my favorite dish (Pad See Ew), the only cultural faux pas I am aware of come from a book entitled "A Quick Guide to Customs & Etiquette" (only 164 pages long and smaller than even the smallest paperback), and the only people I know are...uh...no one. But this will be fun...! I know it will. This is my time to shine (and shine I will I'm sure as it is extremely hot in Thailand with very high humidity).
In any event, it is too late to back out now (not that I would ever consider behaving so cowardly). Tomorrow I will pack my bags, ask my sister to take care of my plant (one I've actually managed to keep alive for over six months now, a truly amazing feat), and will prepare for my journey. Wish me luck and think happy thoughts. Cross your fingers (and your toes). Blow out some candles, snap a wishbone, and keep your eyes peeled for a shooting star. Because I'm going to Thailand; just a little bookworm heading out into the great, wide world, looking for adventure.
